Giving yourself the best chance for a successful whittling/carving session is important. I call this "getting into the whittling/carving zone". You will know when you're "in the zone" when time seems to stand still. When you are unaware of anybody around you. When your knife makes precise, effortless cuts; that you visualize in your head. Where all stop cuts are precise and where other cuts "stop" at the stop cut, and are so clean that there are no "fuzzies". And finally, where you complete a piece that looks just like you planned and visualized it.
To give yourself the best chance of getting into this zone you need to control some or all of the following variables:
. The light is natural and bright,
. Your hands are steady,
. Your grip is firm and painless,
. Chair is comfortable,
. Your eyes are focused,
. No one to interrupt you,
. No cell phone,
. Your knife is super sharp,
. Your carving wood is of the best quality,
. And no "deadlines", no where to be except in a chair with a good knife and piece of wood.
Strive for the above, get into the zone and give yourself the best chance for the best whittling/carving fun.

Firm grip,no problem,but painless is undoable. That will never go away,so i`ll just ignore it,lol.

I completely redesigned my chair with ducttape and old blankets

Maybe the wife with some coffee?

Hmmm,some of the knives are,lol. I still have to master the art of the wetstone.

Ow yeah! Basswood you cal it i think,is ordered. Oak is being collected (in the woods) bij hand.

And a soft radio in the background. I always need some music whil working a piece.
I think i have the list pretty ok and in order.
