Power Carving With Kids
This past year I started helping some kids get started in wood carving. We started out with a knife and all of the safety gear. While we had some great successes, we soon discovered some truths. Two of which are that kids 7 to 10 years old have a short attention span and that I was stressing out about the knives. The kids were having fun and did some nice carvings, but the short attention spans and my stress resulted in taking too long to satisfy the kids
needs for seeing a carved result fast. The answer turned out to be a cordless Dremel and a sanding sleeve. This first project was completed by a very proud young girl, which she did all of the carving herself. As you can see, we started out with a blank that I did cut out. We carved outside with a box fan blowing the dust away from us. We used goggles and a leather glove. NOTE The Pegasus is painted black, because in the story that was assigned in school it was black. I can see an "A" on a book report coming up.
Spot on with this write-up, I absolutely feel this web site needs far more attention.

Thanks for the nice comment. I'll try to do my part in posting up what I think might be useful information.
