I have just experienced the best of all things when whittling/carving. The knife that I just used is a Mike Shipley, the Basswood came from Heinecke, the sun is out in full warmth, and a good stiff breeze blows off the Gulf.
Now here's what's so good. The knife was ground flat, and stroped to a super edge. The Basswood was pure white, with just the perfect amount of moisture. These two combined to make for effortless clean cuts; without any chipping. The sun provided great vision and good warmth. The breeze kept the chips blowing off the deck.
It just doesn't get any better then this......
