Makin A Pen!

Here's kinda of a fun quick and easy project. At the Evart Michigan Woodcarvers Roundup, I had the opportunity to sit with Steve Brown, Author and great carver, and carve one of these ball point pens. All you need is a piece of 1/2 x 1/2 x 6 inch wood, and a cheap ball point pen. Start by pulling the ball point tip and ink tube out of the pen. Drill the wood to receive the "guts" on the ballpoint pen. Pilot hole for the skinny ink tube, and a larger counter bore for the pen tip. Finally, just whittle the wood. There are lots of variations that one can do. I think this is a very neat way to "use up" all the little whittlins that are laying around. Might make great little gifts too. If one was so inclined, one could burn there name into the wood and use it for "advertising".

I really like doing these. I did a few using Tom's five minute wizard and also a santa, mountain man and uncle sam. I give them away as gifts. Drill press broke so have to stop for awhile.
