Watching A Wood Carver Carve!
When ever you get a chance to watch an experienced wood carver/whittler carve you should pay close attention. Watch the carvers hands. Notice how he/she holds the knife. Notice the relationship between the blade and the hand and fingers of the wood holding hand. Notice how WHENEVER POSSIBLE THE CARVER MOVES THE WOOD INTO THE KNIFE BLADE, rather that moving the knife blade into the wood. Notice how the knife is held in one position and the wood is "rolled" into the cutting edge of the blade.
