New Followers & Others

It's always encouraging to see that folks actually read the blog.  It's encouraging to see that new followers have signed up.  The knife giveaway was added to increase the number of followers, and seems to be working.  Now a word about this blog.  We want followers (and others) to leave comments.  Comments about whether a particular posting was helpful, ideas for other postings, or just about anything else.  Feedback is the lifeblood of a blog.  It's the best way for us to know that folks are looking at the blog.

I will be posting the list of followers who have left a comment expressing an interest in Ol' Thomps detail knife.  I will add to the list as more leave a comment expressing interest.  You will want to be sure to check out the blog at the first of December.  I will post the winner of the drawing.  Since "display name" was checked several times these folks will have to clarify which is which, in the event one is picked out of the hat.

Hi Tom,
I was just looking at one of Thomp,s old blog Wood and Things and noticed he had a picture for a home made sharpener for an electric drill. I did not quite know what materials he used or where he purchased them . I thought you might elaborate on it if you are familiarr with the project. Also your opinion on how well it works.

Robert, Thomas was always talkin about home made sharpening systems, and putting them together. He got all his parts from his stash in the shop or at Harbor Frieght. Now that said, this system worked, but Thomas didn't use it much. He shaped his knife blades on a belt sander layed upside down on his bench. Worked them with three different grit diamond sharpening "stones", and finished them off with a 24 inch long leather strop on a stick.

Hi Tom,

Didn`t see the message, but better late then never :-)

Where home is?
My home is in Holland. Brunssum to be exact. Some people might know it,because we have an Afcent base overhere.

Kind regards Dries

That was weird,lol.
I made a message earlier, and another one later. The later one was posted and the earlier one not?

In the earlier message i was explaining where home is.
So Tom,here another go at that ;-)

I live in Holland,Brunssum to be exact. That`s in the south of holland near the border with Belgium and Germany.
We have an Afcent base overhere,so Brunssum must be on the map for some of you guys i think.

Tom,
I am not certain if the following is what you want for other ideas or not but here goes.
One of the guys in the carving club gave me an empty walnut shell with a hinge to open it. I have no drawing ability so what would you suggest I carve to put in it. It has to be able to close.

Robert, Maybe some other followers can offer some suggestions too. I've seen some fantastic scenes inside the walnut shells. However, for the first one you do, try a single object that can kinda fill up the space from top to bottom. Small dog standing on something. Giraffe....

Robert,

Maybe a little animal, like a squirell,or another little forest animal maybe.

I always wonder what would make someone smile. And surprise them with something funny or adorable.

I hope you find something, but you will.

Kind regards Dries
