"Tips That Made Me A Better Woodcarver"

The first organized woodcarving event that I attended was the GATHERING OF WOODCARVERS (GOW).  In 2009, the participants sent in tips that made them a better woodcarver.  These tips were complied and assembled  into a booklet by Susan Alexander, which in turn was given to all the participants in that year's GOW.  As it turned out, this was the last year of the GOW.  From time to time I will post some of these tips.

TIP: Simple Way To Improve Your Carving
Submitted by Laura Reich, originally heard in the Bishop's carving class

"A very simple, small way to improve every carving...a little "triangle" removed at each and every "corner"...like the notch at the elbow, between a neck and a collar.  This add some roundness and a shadow as well."
