Novelty Santa Pin

I have a friend who has been known to work as a Santa during the season.  He don't need a fake white beard or a belly like a bowl of jelly.  But he does need a mug of beer every now and then.  This little 2 1/2 inch pin will serve him well when he's not "workin".  These little novelty pins can be made for any number of friends; dentists, doctors, police, firefighters, plumbers, carpenters, etc.

These types of novelty pins are real easy and fast to do.  I use 1/4 inch Basswood, and try to keep the pins no taller than 2 1/2 inches.  Sketch the subject on the 1/4 inch thick wood, and cut it out on the scroll saw.  Do a deep relief carving.  It's actually 1/2 an "in-the-round" carving.   I use a pocket knife, so I suppose it's a whittling.  Paint, and attach a pin back.  Use 3-D paint for the beer foam.
