Pocket Project - Gnome Ornament

This little pocket project may be a little more difficult, but still a good one for a beginner with a bit of experience.  Cut the blank out of 1/4th inch Basswood.

You're only going to whittle one side, then glue it to the slice of tree limb.  Start by making stop cuts to outline the various features; then pare down/up to the stop cuts.  Then round over the edges.  In the example, I just dipped the piece into wood conditioner, followed by a light stain, and finished with a coat of Tung oil.

I cut the 1/4th inch thick limb section on the chop saw set at 45 degrees.  Apply the same finish to the limb as the gnome.  Drill a hole in the top of the tree limb and add the ribbon for a hanger.

These should make someone very happy at Christmas.
