I have a framed old sewing sampler. This particular old sampler was done by a seven year old girl. The sampler is composed of a series of practice stitches, and embroidery numerals and letters. A close inspection of this old sampler reveals a progression of stitches that get better as they're done. Since I teach some folks to whittle, I thought why not have the learners create their own knife cut samplers, that include some of the basic knife cuts. I have the learners do this prior to actually whittling an identifiable object. I think this exercise removes some of the learners "fear" of making cuts on a project. This way they can practice before whittling the actual piece.
This sampler is for the 5 Minute Wizard.
